Away from the world
An SUV is a great car. Its versatile covering everything from your weekly shops to taking the kids to their weekend sport and even long roadtrips to visit family or escape the everyday.
Its also a very modern car. In a world that is constantly moving, evolving, changing. You can't really account for any particular kind of life so you prepare for every kind of life. The SUV is a great car.
I wanted a different life. Away from the ever unpredictable eb and flow of life, of chance encounters, of spontaneous invitations. Escape from it all and walk a balanced, considered path. One designed from the start to be fulfilling and complete. Yet without requiring the overly burdensome belongings modern life requires of us.
Even the countryside was not immune from the ever expanding reach of modernity. I travelled from seaside towns to mountain escapes and only found a different flavour, a twist, on the everyday I had experienced my whole life in the big city.
I thought maybe things were different in different states, different regions, different worlds; but they all had the characteristic elements of the modern life.
To truly escape, one needs the will to refuse, to contribute, to utilise, to benefit from modernity. That was how I escaped.
I chose the things I wanted to use, the things I wanted to do, where I wanted to live, where to travel, what to eat. I chose; and then made everything else fit.
If I had a small car, it meant I wouldn't be ferrying people around. When I lived one hour from the nearest population centre, it meant bigger shops and more socialising online. If the world fell apart, I only had to change the bits that were affected. No uprooting my life for new policy, no paying more or less due to the whims of the seasons or corporations. Everything simply has its place...
...and all it cost was the world.
